TEACHER PITCH FEEDBACK

Excellent awareness of target audience and generic conventions.

Strong visual ideas with use of split screen.

Shoot will require organisation and the need to think in more detail about the non-performance based sequences.

images of cambridge, (our setting)

Indie Rock scene

Indie Rock music is a music genre denoting rock artists signed to independent (indie) record labels, often equated with alternative rock. Reasons for remaining with indie labels as opposed to major labels varies from artist to artist, whether it be a desire to retain complete editorial control over one's work, a loyalty to the underground DIY culture from which independent labels grow.

From Wikipedia

The setting that we have chosen is less commercial than other music genres, such as popular music.

Previous student music video

This video shows certain shots we wanted to use are possible as in this previous student video they are exercised.

the camara work used showed good knowledge of the conventions of chosen genre of music, using a large varity of shots, including close ups of instruments, and long shots of the band, this quick varity of shots enfuses the speed of the song as well as showing genre conventions.
the transitoins in the video are simple cut(fades are used at the start and end), this keeps the speed and fluidity of the song going, to create a softer video sweeps of the band were used.
although the setting was not entirely relavent, it links with some lines such as "im over here" as the camara would zoom from a distance to a location, it did however use conventions of this genre of music showing the band enjoying them selfs.

Final Pitch

  • Chosen Track is Love killer by The Foxes
  • we like this track because it has an up-beat tempo.
  • music style is main stream indie.
  • we had the initial idea of a split screen performance video.
  • the band that are performing in our video, carbon footprints, have a great stlye and we feel they fit and represent the genre. (sew blog and below)

  • we have a working relationship with the band, this being that one of our group memebers is the band photographer and these are some of the test shots we took.

  • with a view to mix with shots around the city.
  • Potential locations: cambridge and london.
  • these two cities offer a wide variety of shots and scenary, we researched specif areas in cambridge and london.
  • the two areas we are considering to use is the cam, (punting) and the river side in london (by the thames). as seen below.
  • we feel this type of location is appropriate to the genre of music and will give the video a more urban feel.

  • these are videos we feel have inspired us to come up with this brilliant idea.
    (scroll down to videos!)
  • We like the idea of a split screen in the Plain white t's video.
  • The idea of bike riding through the city with an urban backdrop, like in the video for read my mind-killers.
  • The Strokes-Repitillia video shows a wide range of angles that we feel would look good in our music video.

  • we feel that bringing out the performance of the band is more important then showing a story in the video.
  • but we are using a play on words for two of the lines in the song
  • "‘Cos I’ve got to get away from your heart" and "You come and see me when you’re all lost at sea" because in some of our cut off shots ,we want to have a character dressed in a BIG love heart, chassing the lead singer around cambridge or london.
  • In our opening shot we want the band to be on the cams river. hence the lost at sea.

our video will begin, with the lead singer running away, this and escape will remain a theme, as a large part of the lyrics talks about running away from love. we wil portray this, with a comic value to provide a light relife though some what comic moods of transport.

The Strokes-Reptilia

GOOD EXAMPLE OF SPLIT SCREENS AND NICE SHOTS OF INSTRUMENTS.GOOD ANGLES THAT WE ARE GOING TO USE IN OUR VIDEO.

The Foxes own music Video

The Foxes music Video, not the song we are using but shows how the band perform and convey themselves on stage.

Band Performing in our Video

These are pictures of the band that will perform in our music video. Their style suites they way we think the band performing should look. Here are some Photographs of the band members. We could also use similiar shots (in motion), like these.

Clockwork Toy By Hot Club De Paris

we could link the different pictures on the screen by interaction between each band member, for example in the hot club be paris, they throw a skateboard to eachother.

lyrics

(note, we were personally given them by the singer :D)

Here you are mate - enjoy!

Nigel.

LOVER, KILLER (Thomas)

"You come and see me when you’re all lost at sea,
I’d like to help you, but I’ve got to be free because,
I’ve got to get away from your heart.

You think you’re special like your old mums best china,
Yes, you’re hand painted and you think there’s no-one finer.
Oh, come, and take me away, to your heart.

I am your oxymoron doting lover killer,
‘Cos I’ve got to get away from your heart.
I’ve got to get away from you!
I’ve got to get away from your heart.

What will you do when there is no more superficial?
When men don’t stare at you and they don’t stop and whistle?
Oh, God, oh take me away, from your heart.

I am your oxymoron messed up lover killer.
And I’ve got to get away from your heart.
I’ve got to get away from you!
I’ve got to get away from your heart.

Help me to see I’m coming down, help me to see…."

Split screen

The split screen is a great way to break up a music video into different parts, muddle around sections of the same shot or just add a bit of class to it. This particular split screen is based on the old style photos, where you had one big picture and two smaller ones. in the bigger picture we will be able to show some close ups such as Drummers feet playing bass bassist hands playing, tapping feet, and individual drums being hit, as well colse up the band members.this also allows the video to be proformance based (in the bigger picture) but not focus on this.

intial ideas and pitch

The track we have chosen to make a video for is track 5 Love Killer by The Foxes. the band have a myspace:

http://www.myspace.com/thefoxesband

Our initial idea was inspired by the Plain White tees video below

We would film the video in the area of cambridge, punting down the river, this gives the imagery of fun! The lead singer would be on a boat with the drummer, and bassist with the rythm guitarist. By the band Punting where are using a play on words, from the open line "lost at sea".

seen in the image below is punting! this would be our first location, in cambridge.

we would then move onto a different location..but staying in cambridge. By putting the band on a bike on a tandem, we thought this would have a classic effect on the video, as the genre of music is associated with an urban setting, but by also including aspects such as the punting we are able to show the band having fun. These shots would also work really well, with our off-cuts and the split effect we are going to use.

below are the types of shots, we would use in our tandem scenes and also the music video, read my mind by the killers.
